The islands of New Zealand sit between 35 - 45 degrees latitude south, at the bottom of the cool, clear South Pacific Ocean, the gateway to the Antartica. While Red Deer and Elk/Wapiti have been farmed on New Zealand's green pastures and mountain ranges for just 30 years, in that time there have been impressive advances in livestock husbandry, genetics, environmental management, safe handling techniques and research into the properties of deer velvet.
Velexco Co-operative was formed in 2003 by New Zealand deer farmers to bridge the gap between producers and consumers in the North Asian markets of Korea, China and Taiwan. We are based in Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, and we have a brance office in Seoul, Korea.
Velexco deer farmers produce championship winning velvet, much of it grown in the cold mountainous Southern Alps region. Their enthusiasm and the skill shown in producing such high quality velvet make Velexco a leading supplier of this important ingredient in Traditional Oriental Medicine.
In addition to servicing the traditional sector, Velexco Co-operative is also developing marketing alliances to supply innovative products that include safe, healthy New Zealand deer velvet for the new generation of consumers.
